Gibble has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

I get this problem when trying to use the PPM to install packages. I am using Win Me with the latest version of ActivePerl and I am trying to install XML::SABLOTRON

Retrieving package 'PPM'...
HTTP POST failed: 500 (Can't connect to www.activestate.com:80 (Timeout), <> line 9.)

I am assuming that I need to add a repository since the activestate one appears to not be working. Can you please give me some locations of other PPM repositories specifically one that contains XML::SABLOTRON?
TIA

You don't happen to be behind a firewall, do you?

I just tried connecting to www.activestate.com:80 and it works properly for me. You should set the HTTP_PROXY environment variable if you want PPM to go through.

Other PPM repositories should be listed in the documentation that came with your ActivePerl distribution.

I am behind a firewall but it used to work?

    http://search.cpan.org/search?mode=module&query=sablotron

I need to look in Activestate's documentation, and see what they say about CPAN. This type of question is being asked too frequently.

Occassionally the ActiveState.com site goes down, and it's not unheard of for them to temporarily rearrange things in ways that break PPM. But the error you're getting is wierd. What, exactly, are you typing to leads to this error?

By the way, I don't see XML::Sablotron in the ActiveState packages repository (http://www.activestate.com/ppmpackages). You may need to install it manually.
