in thread a site about using system command

So maybe what we really need is a section that has a single tutorial on how to use perldoc ;).

HEAR, HEAR!

Not that it'd do much good because there's gobs of lazy people who'd still not bother to look up basic information before posting, of course. But if there were a way of making people read something along those lines and one of the "How to ask questions" threads before they could submit their first question it might cut down on some of the inanity.

Well, perhaps it would help a lot to have a logical tree built with answers to basic questions about the problem, starting with the simplest questions (just like M$'s problem solver).

Every answer would lead to another desission question and other useful links if the questions stop at some point.

Then, a last answer link would lead to asking at the forum if there is some trouble with the questions or if the problem was not envisioned at the logical tree...

I would like to see something like this, which is generally termed an "Expert System" (accurately or not). However, I think the Monestary is already in pretty decent shape.

I'm a big fan of the UNIX mentality -- do one thing and do it well. Adding an expert system for Perl assistance to a site focused on discussion of Perl development (which happens to include assisting neophytes) seems out of place.

I happen to like the idea, though -- I'd even be willing to help implement it, as I have some experience with expert systems. If you're interested in putting some devel time into your idea, /msg me noting your interest.

Well I wasn't thinking of a commercial idea, but just a way of re-organizing the data that is actually useful at this site.

I was thinking of creating (sort of XML) structured tags like those used at Gmail ( http://gmail.com ) and every time that someone qualified is reading a page here, could help by adding some of those predefined and structured tags in some parts of the page. After a while, the whole site should be searchable in a structured manner. Nothing similar to an expert mode,I guess.

Perhaps, the expert part might be to add some questions to the resulting main node of the structure, but that is not so important if the structure might help to find related text inside the same family of nodes.

Just a humble suggestion. But if I could help in something, I wouldn't doubt it, because I need of your experience, a lot!

I know what to do with "M-MakeMoney" trouble shooters - stay away from them. ;-). Too much effort for making something which has always made me frustrated to the point i removed the entire OS from my home pc.
The best way IMHO would be to just suggest the person to look further before coming here instead of pointing him directly to the answer.
