JediWizard has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

Dearest fellow members of the perl community,

I would like to increase my level of contribution to the perl community. I see a couple of ways I could do this in addition to any contribution I manage to make here in the monastary: First, I could help out with around the monastry by volenteering time to work on projects for the site; Or second, I coulp try to find a way to contribute to projects for CPAN. I would like to ask the advice of my fellow monks, how should I go about finding more ways to contribute to perl/perlmonks/the perl communtity. I would be happy to volenteer some of my free time to work on any type of perl coding project that needs, or could use, my help. If any of you can suggest a way I could be of service to our community in a greater capacity, recomendations would be appreciated.

There are many ways to do it; you could follow chromatic's advice and run and write tests. You could answer questions usefully. You could identify a problem or something that's missing, and fix it (that's how many, many good modules got on CPAN). Do it in a way that is useful to others, not just yourself. But don't get carried away in generality. The trick is finding something you (personally) find rewarding, so you stay motivated. Keep asking yourself if you like doing it, and if you find that you no longer do, switch to something else.

    Hi!

The phalanx project can always use helpers. See petdance's perl.com article for more information.

A quick summary of the phalanx project's goals:

    1. Strengthen CPAN's tests, coverage and documentation
    2. Strengthen Perl's tests and coverage
    3. Bring in newcomers to the Perl development process

Money donations would never hurt. I plan on working a
"Perl Donation" column in my monthly or yearly budget.
