Zero byte terminated strings

chorg has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

Hello all,

I need to parse a zero byte terminated XML string from an appplication into a server. I want to use the

local $/="line terminator here"

idiom, but I do not know what the line terminator for a zero byte is is. Anyone?
