Your regex,
/(.\s)*/ is silly. It says "match a non-newline character and then a space, zero or more times". Perhaps you meant
/(.*\n)*/, which means "match zero or more non-newline characters and then a newline, zero or more times". But that's not right for you. What you really want is to match as many non-> characters as possible. I'd suggest
/[^>]*/.
