Connectivity between servers

asifk1981 has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

Hi monks

I have a problem. I need to check whether a particular port, say for example port 1000 in server1, is accessible form server2. Can someone pls provide me with the code snippet to do this.
