    my $data = do { local $/; <TEXTFILE> };

No, this isn't golf, but all the same it's a nice construct to know.

That has to copy the string though. Doing: `my $x = do { "string" };` [download] is less efficient than `my $x; { $x = "string" }` [download] `japhy` -- Perl and Regex Hacker	[reply] [d/l] [select]

Or even: `{ local $/=<TEXTFILE>; ## Do stuff with $/ directly }` [download]	[reply] [d/l]
