I've added a search engine to perldoc.perl.org. Rather than being a full text search, the algorithm is optimised for looking up module names, functions, and FAQs (as an example, try a search for 'regex' or 'open').

The code is still under development, so any feedback on instances where it did not find the page you were searching for would be very helpful.

Cheers,

JJ

    Looks great!

A search for atan2 never worked?

This is the only function with a number in it's name though.

Not that I could help, but I am interested in seeing the code that you use. Is there any chance?

    Thanks.

Yes small bug there... many thanks for pointing it out. I've just fixed it on the dev system so it will be live as soon as perl.org does a mirror (<24 hours).

I will be posting the complete set of scripts / modules which are used to build perldoc.perl.org to CPAN in the next few days.

      Cheers,

I was just re-reading the beginning of Learning Perl, you know, where it gets you to type in perldoc -u -f atan2, and I thought of searching for it ;-)

I look forward to reading the scripts etc.

    Hi Jon,
Does the search engine exist in the download version?

In fact there is a posting, that explain how can we search tutorial or function from your great website
directly from shortcut in Firefox or Opera. Now, with your current search engine it can be optimized to FAQ, great!

Thanks for creating such a great and pleasurable perldoc to read! :-)
    Regards,
    Edward

    Wow, i'm impressed.
I like the syntax coloring too, except that it does not seem to work on examples, see open.

++ Just had a look at the js source for the searching - v.nice.

Unfortunately though, my first search came up empty: 'perltoc'

Whilst searching for things like $^F and $=, the Special variables page doesn't get listed. Not being picky, but I think that is should be.

    Just another 2p worth.
