KaiAllard has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

Hi, how to get an internet connection and how to load a file in order to parse it? It would be enough to tell me where to find such information for a unix machine. Thank you.

Setting up an internet connection is probably out of scope for here. What do you mean by "load a file"? My guess is that you want to grab a web page, in which case you should take a look at LWP::Simple, although note that there might be easier (depending on your specific needs) command-line solutions using things like lynx, wget, curl, ftp.

It really depends on what you're trying to do. Are you trying to get the file via FTP, SSH, HTTP, etc? If what you mean is that your computer doesn't currently have an internet connection, this isn't probably the best place to look for help with that.

You'll probably want to look at the Net:: modules on www.cpan.org

If you can give us more specific information it would help us to answer your question.

It's not very clear but I think you want to use the module LWP which should do what you want.

Your right I was somekind of superficial... Computer is online. Script has to connect HTTP and load a specific file in order to parse for interesting information. It would be enough to get that file down on my computer where I can handle it, but as I am very new to perl especially to modules I am asking for help. I would also appreciate if you would tell me a page where all these modules are described... Thank you.
Ahh... I guess LWP::simple would do the job. Thank you again. Its the third question I had and that is answered fast and correct... really impressive monks... I am very happy
