While I agree that we have Personal Nodelet, my suggested way can make that even more useful. With a nodelet for 'nodes I recently upvoted (or voted)', the list can get updated automatically, with your voting. Thus you can get benefit with single click or action of voting. Later on, if you like it, you can always add them in "Personal Nodelet". So with my suggested way, we are not taking anything away from current system, but adding a good functionality for sure. Just assume, I have seen few nice nodes and I have upvoted them, but I don't have time to comment, and I like to clear my newest nodes to keep things clear, I can view the recently ++ node list and comment after couple days. This will make voting even more conscious, as it can be 'used' later.

Another benefit is that, I can make myself more aware of what is going on Perlmonks and would be pleased as Perlmonks can remember what I liked, which extends the personalization effect. Also you will receive it as personalization system created by system, rather than yourself. You will certainly like that.

To make the place clutterless, we can always build some logic, such as if you have '++'ed multiple nodes for given parent node, show the parent node instead of children nodes.
