Maybe you could use a module like IA::Prolog to solve this kind of problem: declare your restrictions and let the deep-search of prolog look for the solutions.

I am not familiar with Prolog, but I will do some reading on it. Hopefully it will be something new that I can add to my arsenal.	[reply]
