Anonymous Monk has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

Hi Monks,

I need to convert a bmp type image file to a screen save format file (file1.bmp to file1.scr).
Is there any module to do that?

Thanks, in Advance.

Jes

I doubt that there's any Perl module to do that. If I remember correctly, .scr is the same as .exe, in other words it's a program (executable machine code) not an image. Assuming we're talking MS Windows here...

There may well be commercial/shareware products that allow you to construct screen savers from one or more static image files. You could try http://www.download.com/ or http://www.google.com/ for that.

Have you even looked on CPAN? The main image manipulation modules are GD and ImageMagick. Neither is simple to use.

    • In general, if you think something isn't in Perl, try it out, because it usually is. :-)
