Having lived in a few timezones I am quite picky about getting this one right.

In the configuration options for Perl Monks it offers a selection of timezones to choose from ranging from GMT+11 to GMT-12. But in actual fact the +/- symbol appears to be inverted.

In Australia (Sydney) we are GMT+10 during Winter. However the option that provides the correct time on Perl Monks is GMT-10.

Another issue I have is on behalf of the poor New Zealanders who often are ignored by RFCs and the like. They exist at GMT+12 (yes, really, plus!) during Winter, and move to GMT+13 during Summer. This was corrected by a later RFC for the time MIB, and perhaps Perl Monks can honour the lads of New Zealand by offering them this choice of timezone?

Thanks!

Tell BSD. The only "simple offset from GMT" timezones that BSD offers were labeled "backwards". Those are only on user settings for backward compatability (from before PerlMonks supported real timezones) and the ones in BSD are surely only there for backward compatability. So them being backward in sign isn't too surprising, nor much of a practical problem.

Though they should be put someplace less prominent because they appear to prevent some from noticing that we have a whole page of real timezones that should be used instead.

I noticed the same thing (hmm... why didn't i post a question??) To get the proper time for US/East Coast, I had to choose +4 when it's really -4 .. since the end result was right, i'd just forgotten about it..

The timezones do seem inverted (and have been so for a while). However, since the primary reason for me visiting this site is to read/feedback the posts, I promptly forgot about that :)

UPDATE: Oh, and I did post a question... I don't remember - it either was misunderstood, or no one seemed to care... so I didn't care about it since then...

      Thanks, did so :)

New Zealanders should note that Pacific/Auckland should work for NZ..

But my comment was more a general one on the selection given by the user preferences form.

Daylight savings timezones would be nice too...

Update: Note to self: in future, read entire thread before posting!

      No they wouldn't!
