hector48 has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

I try to install DBI module and DB-DB2 on an IBM P630 running REdhat ES 3.0. It seems that the module does not install properly because when I run make test, I get error on loading DBI.so:

[root@p630linux DBI-1.48]# make test PERL_DL_NONLAZY=1 /usr/bin/perl "-MExtUtils::Command::MM" "-e" "test_h +arness(0, 'blib/lib', 'blib/arch')" t/*.t t/01basics............# Failed test (t/01basics.t at line 40) # Tried to use 'DBI'. # Error: Can't load '/root/DBI-1.48/blib/arch/auto/DBI/DBI.so' fo +r module DBI: /root/DBI-1.48/blib/arch/auto/DBI/DBI.so: cannot open s +hared object file: No such file or directory at /usr/lib64/perl5/5.8. +0/ppc64-linux-thread-multi/DynaLoader.pm line 229.

the make command issued no error just warnings about multi-thread usage...
Any idea ?

    I had the same problem with AIX and Oracle. It turned out our perl version was 32-bit but the DBD module was trying to link in 64-bit Oracle libraries. You might be having the same issues, but without more information about your system it's kind of hard to debug.
