Inspired by RFC: Filesys::Type

Has anyone ever thought about writing a program that connects to all the machines you own, installs a module of your choice and then tests it by running a wee bit of code, after which it reports any errors that occur?

In Re: RFC: Filesys::Type, I have the small bit of code in mind that would help in testing Filesys::Type (from the modules docs), but the only thing that would need to be added, is a quick check of what the system is, to pick a situation partition.

Has this distributed kind of basic testing been done before or is it completely the wrong way to go about it?

Gavin.

    From lurking on the perl-qa list I know that Schwern proposed a distributed testing system over a year ago.

    Where it stands is anyones guess, but you can find a bit more information on the MakeMaker wiki.

    Set up your own, private CPAN mirror and upload to it (perhaps with CPAN::Mini::Inject). Set up your machines as CPAN Testers. They find out when the new modules show up, then download it, test it, and mails you the results.

    Or, you could just let CPAN Testers do all that. :)

      That's exactly the kind of thing I had in mind.

    That sounds a little like the Krang Farm except it tests a whole application and the machines are virtual.
