strredwolf has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

Is there any way to modify the alpha or matte channel in PerlMagick? or more specifically, yank out the matte to edit it. Some idle questions for doing a GIMP-like program.

    According to the PerlMagick Documentation, you can get a layer (red, green, blue or matte) with the following command:
    $matte_layer = $image->Layer{layer = 'Matte' };
    -- PerlMonger::Paris(http => 'paris.pm.org');

    D'oh! Another case of not reading the manual well enough. OeufMayo told me that $img->Layer(layer=>'Matte') would do the trick. I'm a fool.
