A long, long time ago I used to edit (among other things) parts of the Perl Section on dmoz.org but gave up for a variety of reasons (chief amongst these being work) anyway I had occasion to look at the section today only to discover that virtually the whole section lacks an editor and does indeed appear to require a little bit of maintenance.

Why should this worry us? Well the data from the dmoz directory is what informs most of the directories of the major search engines including Google and Lycos if you hadn't already noticed. So having a poorly edited, out of date and unrepresentative listing is really doing Perl a disservice (I couldn't for instance find a listing for Perlmonks on there).

Anyway this is really a call to arms for sufficiently time-enabled and enthusiastic monks (brass parts might be helpful too as some of the other editors can be, er, opinionated at times) to volunteer to edit a section or a few sections of the Perl category there. You can go to the particular bit that might interest you and click the "Volunteer to edit this category" link and take it from there, unfortunately the editorship of the entire category is closed at the moment but if you really want to do the whole thing I guess you can think about applying when you have a bit of a track record.

Perlmonks is listed in http://dmoz.org/Computers/Programming/Languages/Perl/ and has been there for years. ;-)

I'm a dmoz.org editor and I have occasionally edited a bit in the Perl category, although my name is not listed there. However, I would encourage interested monks to apply. The main Perl category does not accept applications from new editors because it's too big for beginners. You should start with a smaller subcategory (up to ~100 listings is usually considered reasonable). After you edit a bit in a small category you can apply for more.

Added: Also, if you don't wish to become an editor you can help by suggesting URLs.

    Yeah you're right!

I'm currently an editor of a really small category (High Schools in World/Srpski - Serbian) and was looking for something that could give me a little more experience.

I would probably not be accepted to some bigger category (except maybe for green-buster) but could get with some sub category of Perl ...
