Slashdot story here.

I asked about this in the chatterbox and all I got was people talking about lunchbreaks, not wearing pants, and the like. Has this been discussed yet? If not, Wake up people.

I was glad to have been informed about this matter, as sad as it is. Chip is completely in the right on this, of course, and yes, I feel strongly that extraordinary measures should be taken by as many perl programmers as possible to support Chip's victory over this injustice.

As another node thread was referenced previously, I'll probably make further comments there.

And there I was surprised to find that they were running a freshly installed Mandrake 9.2 with bizarelly identical apache configuration to mine:

      Server: Apache-AdvancedExtranetServer/2.0.47 (Mandrake Linux/6.12.92md +k) mod_perl/1.99_09 Perl/v5.8.1 mod_xslt/1.0.5a mod_ssl/2.0.47 OpenSS +L/0.9.7b DAV/2 PHP/4.3.2 Catacomb/0.8.0 mod_mono/1.0.5
They had taken a rather strange scorched earth approach to defending themselves from being slashddotted:

      He heh

And for those of us who don't read 'dig' output and Apache configurations in the same way that we read, say, an Agatha Christie novel, could you tell us the significance of these forensics?

I caught this story yesterday on /. and if I read Chip's letter correctly, he was pointing out how they were disregarding people's privacy while doing web harvesting. Odd thing is that when you go to their page, their privacy policy is currently missing/defunct/being rewritten as we discuss.

    Very strange indeed...

Useless trivia: In the 2004 Las Vegas phone book there are approximately 28 pages of ads for massage, but almost 200 for lawyers.

Health Market Science proudly presents several of its customers on its website (http://www.healthmarketscience.com/customers/customers.html). Does any Perlmonk work at one of those customers? High enough in the companies pecking order to do something? (Have the company find a replacement for HMS, send a "we are concerned" letter to the CEO, etc). Or should be write the CEO's of HMS customers, and send them a link to the geeksunite web site?

Modern help should go through alternative paths rather than simply giving money, don't you think so?

Good help should just collect the required evidence to let him free. Or in case of finding the acussing evidence, publish it to clear everybodies minds.

We shouldn't react as it should be expected any longer. There is a big wall growing between commercial mischief and the Internet world...

Your assumption that just because we didn't all immediately say "Gosh, that's terrible, I didn't know about that", therefore we don't care and were going to do nothing, was ignorant and rude.
