Doug Sheppard writes part four of Beginners Intro to Perl, and Mark-Jason Dominus posted the incisive Why I Hate Advocacy. I'm sure many people will find some things to disagree with in there, and it has a lot of good commentary.

I actually agree with most, maybe all, of Mark-Jason Dominus' article. I agree that advocacy is often used to simply belittle other valid opinions rather than offer useful alternatives. The "my language/platform/interface can do anything" mentality does little in the long run except close our minds to the good bits to be found elsewhere.

And as he says at the end, I too don't really hate advocacy, but just the way it is often used. It often appears to me to be little more than an interesting marketing technique. It's a good piece, worth the read.
