Please note that although this is good news for all the people opposing software patents in europe: the proposed (unclear and too broad) directive is out the window, it also means the amendments that could have fixed the "loophole" for software patents are not in either.

AFAIK this means that 1. european countries are still free to patent software at their own discretion, and 2. you should expect new european proposals.

All in all though, I'm happy I'll still be able to do my work and not run idiotically high legal and financial risks for using my own intelligence and imagination.
