O'Reilly has just published the details of OSCON Europe. 17th - 20th October in Amsterdam. If you can't afford to get over to Portland this year, then this sounds like a great alternative.

    Oh - My - God

has anyone seen the pricing at OSCON?

Conference Fees Early Registration Price Standard Price
    27 June - 29 August 30 August - 16 October
Convention Sessions plus two tutorials (Get one tutorial free -- select 2 tutorials for the price of 1!) €1120.00 €1340.00
    Convention Sessions €825.00 €995.00
    Tutorials Only -- 1 Unit €295.00 €345.00
    Tutorials Only -- 2 Units €525.00 €575.00
Walk-Ins: If you register on-site or online after 17 October, add €100 to your total fee.

    That's eh - not cheap

Well, it's cheaper than OSCON US (and you save on the travel too!).

It seems to me that there are two completely different types of conference. On the one hand, you have the grass roots conferences like YAPC and FOSDEM where everything is really cheap and then on the other hand you have the professional conferences like OSCON where you have to pay a lot more. The OSCON style of conference is aimed more at the corporate market where people tend to think that information is worth what you pay for it :)

There's room for both type of conference in my opinion.

In the case of the O'Reilly conference, the information is worth more that what I pay for it.
