in thread Front page in order front paged, not node creation order

I agree with everything but the "should not be optional". I would think it should default to order by when front paged but i see no reason to forbid xdg or others from viewing it in order of when posted. Or even in random order.

Also, i personally think it might be an idea to "unfrontpage" nodes that are sufficiently stale. That way they can be "re-frontpaged" at a later date.

And while we are on front page related discussion, I would like to have a special section on the front page that displays for newer users (say < level 5) that randomly displayed one (or more) nodes from a selected list that would be maintained by the gods or the janitors. The list would include various things like select PM faqs along with advice nodes like How (Not) To Ask A Question.

Nice idea; I'd call it PerlMonks Hint, and cycle through them rather than be random. (Even for AM; there cycling would effectively be random.)

The idea of a PM Hints section on the FP I like a lot. Perhaps it should be first for those that see it. And that prompts the idea that monks be able to set the order of FP sections as a preference. SMOP, and most of the code exists for nodlet order.
