I don't really understand what you mean by "remotability".
Many tools may be employed to perform automated testing on remote machines.
Some that I know of are:
Simple portable tools like rsh, ssh, rcp, ftp, nfs, telnet, cron, ... using Perl as a glue language to bind them together
