processing and merging data

tcf03 has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

I have some data - it may be anywhere from 10 to 64 fields in a comma delimited file - My need is to select certain fields, process it with some other non-Perl program and merge it back into the original data. Id like to give this some thought before jumping right in. Im curious if anyone knows of any modules or gotchas that might be of use. I haven't started to code yet - Id like to think it out a bit as its a bit of code that will be around for a while.

The user will always know what fields they need, and what fields are available. The fields that will pulled for processing will be chosen when the program runs and will always be different.

I think that what you need is Text-CSV-Simple Perl is Huffman encoded by design.	[reply]
