Often in Perl Monks User Search when I go to a node, I would like to see it in context and then follow the "in reply to" or "in thread" links.

Now I wonder if threads may include anchors and the possibility of showing an entire thread with the browser positioned at a specific {reply, node}.

In particular I'd like the User Search to either

  1. include a link to such an entry appearing on one side of the current link (e.g. a fixed width "in thread" link, or even a tiny image) or
  2. directly bring me there, upon a user setting, of course -- not to disrupt the current behaviour.

If somebody wants to do it there is support for using Recently Active Threads to show a specific thread. All that would have to happen is adding the appropriate link to the search results list. Ie: This Thread

Of course, there could be improvments to how such a result is rendered.

What I'd like is closer to, say, what Google Groups does, see e.g.: this article within the thread it's part of. But of course much more simple, and without the navigating frame and all those confusing "bells and whistles" -- I preferred the old UI btw, as you may guess.

      Edit: g0n - corrected links

Ive wanted a thread-view nodelet for sometime. Perhaps it will eventually be implemented by someone. Most of the infrastructure is there to do it already, its mostly a question of whether such a nodelet would add too much load (IMO it wouldnt) and finding some spare tuits to actually put it together.
