Playing music within CMD on WinXP

Anonymous Monk has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

Maybe a question asked before but here it goes.

I am creating a very simple perl-based poem for my girlfriend who I am meeting (met her online) for the first time next week. It's really simple but I thought it'd be cute. It will just post line by line with a little sleep interval in there (by the way: if you can think of some other cutsie thing for it, let me know!).

The question is.. From the command line in Windows XP, is there a way to play a MP3 sound file WITHOUT opening an external player like WMP? I was hoping to open a song while the first line of the poem was posted and then after the last line it will kill the song.

Anyone know how this would be done?

Take a look at gplay. It is one of the unix tools ported to Windows http://unxutils.sourceforge.net/.	[reply]

The only way I know of to do this is MPEG::MP3Play. Note that your lady friend will have to install XAudio Libraries first.
