Anonymous Monk has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

Hi Monks I am using the telnet and the ftp modules to fpt files to a linux machine and then the telnet to run a few commands there. When i run my scripts it looks as though it is taking almost ever to connect to the linux machine even through the telent module, but the ftp does work well in putting the files on the remote host machine. Can any body advice? The linux machine is fedora core 2. Regards, Sid

Posting your code might help. We can't (usually) debug what we can't even see.

Hi I think it is with the linux system since i was able to use it earlier when I tried to telnet to the linux box manually i got this
host.migv.mot.com (Linux release 2.6.5-1.358smp #1 SMP Sat May 8 0 +9:25:36 EDT 2004) (1383) login: user Password for user: login: Cannot resolve network address for KDC in requested realm while + getting initial credentials Last login: Wed Oct 19 12:46:38 from host
Any idea how to overcome this? Thanks and Regards, Sid

It looks as though your telnet daemon on the remote host has been Kerborised (sp?) - so you can log in with an external realm account (either from a Windows domain or MIT Kerberos realm) or with local accounts on the box itself.

It's likely that there's some misconfiguration on the telnetd side or the Kerberos side, either way it's not really a problem with your Perl per-se.

Check your /etc/krb5.conf file on the remote host for a starting point :)
