Hi great monks,

I dont know whether this would fit in this segment or not. If not there must be a new link for Cool uses of perlmonks. Last week i have been placed in oracle as perl developer for QA automation.

Iam a active user in this user group for the past 2 years. The role perlmonks played in my carrer growth is immense. I have started to use perl for mere text manipulation like finding and replacing strings in a file etc. and thought that perl as yet another language. The moment i landed to this site the view i got on the language turned upside down. From there on the my perl learing curve started to get up steeply.

I take this moment to thank all the monks who replied my questions patiently. Special thanks to browseruk, castaway, bart, Erudil who helped me to get a good grip on perl.

For an average guy/programmer like me getting in to oracle is a dream come true. I doubt whether i would have got so far with out this site. I know that i still have a long way to go in terms of perl skills. The moment i answer regularly two questions out of ten continuous questions asked in seekers of perl wisdom i consider my self as above average perl programmer.

Once again Million thanks for you guys.

Regards,
Murugesan Kandasamy.

You should also be commended for taking responsibility for your own professional development and putting in the time to learn from perlmonks. This excellent resource is freely available, but many people tend to take the attitude that their employer should teach them what they need to know.

Congrats on your persistence and your new position!

Good job, seriously. That's fantastic. The ride's not over yet though. ;) I hope you enjoy your new endeavor. It's nice to hear from someone who put in the hard work and has seen the benefits.
