Anonymous Monk has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

I'm working under difficult circumstances - no internet connection for my PC. I need to quickly write some perl to access an Oracle DB under Win NT. E.Quigley's Perl by Example explains how to use PPM to download with net access. Can you help ? I have never used DBI before. Thankyou.

Go to a machine that has internet connections and is the same platform as you are on. Use PPM to download (but not install) DBI and DBD::Oracle. Move them to your machine and install them. You may need to set your PPM repository to some directory at http://www.esoftmatic.com/ which has good windows binaries of DBI stuff. You'll have to set some environment variables, read the DBD::Oracle docs and check the archives of dbi-users@perl.org for details. Good luck!
