I first saw the light sometime in 2001 and have been walking toward it ever since. At that time the place of my employment had fewer people who would spell 'Perl' without the 'a' than there are fingers on a standard human hand. In less than a year I established myself as a Perl go-to guy of sorts. People come over to me and say: "Now don't get too excited, just tell me how to do this in Perl." I get excited and send them off with not an answer, but everything they need to figure it out. Perl gained quite a few friends this way. I re-wrote some (shudder) COBOL reports in Perl, which improved their performance, maintainability and karma. This opened some eyes, and eventually contributed in adoption of Perl as de facto standard for developing reports. That is my story so far. At present, if I were asked to summarize my attitude toward Perl, it would be nearly identical to what it was in 2001: There is so much to learn! There is so much to experience! There is so much to develop! There is so much to solve! FEED ME! Cheers Mates! -chudpi
