Perl/Openoffice Solution

tmedlock has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

I'm having to come up with a solution that basically takes an XML file and creates a an openoffice impress presentation. The presentation will mostly have charts and tables. Does anyone have any experience with this? I checked out the openofice doc module on CPAN and it doesn't look like it will support charting features. Any insight would be appreciated. Why not create the charts and tables with the GD::* set of Modules and insert them into Impress? Or do you want OO Impress native Charts and tables?
