calling .NET assemblies

draganp has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

I am working as a software tester, and my favorit tool for automation is Perl. Now I am testing some .NET assemblies, and I would like to call methods from Perl.
As I am understanding PerlNET from ActiveState gives this feature, but:

it is not the interpreter any more. You have to compile, and then execute .exe file
it is not free

Is there any other solution (calling .NET methods from Perl), or am I missing something?

If you are in a position to build mono, then you could create a module that embeds mono via XS. You will find http://www.gotmono.com/docs/embeding/embeddperl.html and http://www.mono-project.com/Embedding_Mono useful. /J\	[reply]
