Thanks dragonchild, that helps. I assume by "persistent" you mean something like mod_perl? I'm running the regular old CGI cycle, so may I can just dispense with the cgiapp_prerun.

I can just dispense with the cgiapp_prerun. Don't. You will still benefit mentally from the separation of app-setup vs. response-setup. Plus, if you keep them separate, your migration to mod_perl will be easier when (not if!) it happens. My criteria for good software: Does it work? Can someone else come in, make a change, and be reasonably certain no bugs were introduced?	[reply]
