jgallagher has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

I'm trying to read STDERR from an external program. I've got things going with Open3, but I've run into a problem when the C program outputs a ton of backspaces and then the data I want. Is there any way to remove backspaces from a string?

Oddly enough, \b in a regex is a word boundary, but in tr, as you show, it's a backspace. Good thing to bite beginners with.

Scratch that. I should've looked at the manpage... it's \010.
