neilwatson has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

I've been examining the Openveiw Perl modules (Openview::Message::*) for use in our deployment of OV. I attempted to install them but, had some problems. A sample error during make test:
Running make test PERL_DL_NONLAZY=1 /usr/bin/perl "-MExtUtils::Command::MM" "-e" "test_h +arness(0, 'blib/lib', 'blib/arch')" t/*.t t/00opcmsg....ok 6/7Option +minor is not valid for this command. (OpC30-902) Usage : opcmsg [-hel +p] [-id] [severity=normal|warning|minor|major|critical] application=<application> object=<object> <sg_text=<text> [msg_grp=<message group>][node=<node>][service_id=<svcid>] [-option <var>=<value>]* (OpC30-900) # Test 7 got: '0' (t/00opcmsg +.t at line 39) # Expected: '512' # t/00opcmsg.t line 39 is: ok( 0 t/00opcmsg....FAILED test 7
I believe there may be some changes in the syntax that HP's opcmsg expects in our installed version (7.2) and what this module is programmed to provide. Would that be a correct assessment?

    Maybe. I know nothing about this thing, but I see the error comes from
    ok( 0 ,opcmsg( OPC_SEV_MINOR ,$application ,$object ,"this is ia test of a perl XS implementation of opcmsg (tes +t 2)" ,$msg_group ,$ENV{'HOSTNAME'} ) ); #10
    Its a safe bet $ENV{HOSTNAME} is defined and "correct", but what about $application, $object, $msg_group?
    my $msg_group = defined $ENV{'OVO_MSG_GROUP'} ? $ENV{'OVO_MSG_GROUP'} +: 'OVO_test_group' ; my $application = defined $ENV{'OVO_APPLICATION'} ? $ENV{'OVO_APPLICAT +ION'} : 'application' ; my $object = defined $ENV{'OVO_OBJECT'} ? $ENV{'OVO_OBJECT'} : 'object +' ;

    I run a Win32 PPM repository for perl 5.6.x and 5.8.x -- I take requests (README).
