how would I use perl to change any newlines (\n) to become line breaks (br) in html? 
 perl -e "$foo = qq|this\nwill\nlook\ndifferent|; $foo=~s/\n/<br>/g; p
+rint $foo;"
this<br>will<br>look<br>different
