This post is mainly going to be a long ramble. Forgive me :)

In French, "au revoir" means (roughly) "until I see you again." "Adieu" is more final, meaning "good-bye." This is probably not a good-bye, but I will not be posting much here in the future. As of January 29, 2001, I am moving to Europe. I will likely not be working with Perl :( I have only been guaranteed three months over there, but may stay longer depending upon how everything goes.

I will doubtless show up from time to time, but I will probably not be here with near the frequency that I have been in the past. My reasons for moving are complicated and I'd rather not speak about them right now. This post is mainly to say that I am disappointed that I will not be here as often as I have and I will miss the heck out of my interactions with all of you.

Amongst other things, I will be meeting my father for the first time in my life. I have to confess that I'm quite nervous about that, but excited at the same time. He lives in Idstein, Germany, a little town west of Frankfurt. Hopefully it will go well.

I'll also be meeting my brother for the second time in my life (can you tell that I have an odd family history?). He's a British programmer and doesn't do Perl, but hopefully I'll have the chance to convert him. Proselytizing doesn't count if it's within the family, right? :)

There are a couple of European monks that I have already agreed to meet and I look forward to that. If you live in Western Europe, drop me a line and maybe we can get together!

I will show up from time to time. In fact, if I have easy Internet access, perhaps I'll be here more than I have anticipated. In any event, I'll miss you guys (and a couple of ladies as well)!

Forgot to mention, if you would like to contact me, email me at "poec at yahoo dot com."

Cheers,
Ovid

Take care, my friend, we will miss you, pray for you, and wish you godspeed. May the winds be at your back, the sun in your face, and the seed in your favor.

And, speaking strictly for myself, I will miss the wisdom you've shown over the past months. Your nodes have been quite helpful. Thank you.

    I'd say Au revoir Ovid
Perlmonks.org is a fairly international community. There are people from all over Europe here, don't be afraid you won't enter the Dark Ages by coming here.
Good luck for your move and if you ever happen to be in western parts of Germany, drop me a line. Maybe we could meet.

    Take care!

Dear Ovid, If you pass through lovely, sunny Barcelona, there are a few perl guys here. Incidentally, Internet cafes, etc are readily available here, in case you want to drop by perlmonks again! Just a measly 200 pesetas/hora and you can be in touch with your fellow monks! Enjoy Europe! Benvinguts a Barcelona!

Even if your reasons remain unclear to me...
    I wish you the best...

I REALLY hope that you'll manage to keep in touch, as every Perl enlightned leaving is a great loss for us (knowledge seekers)

Anyway If you land somewhere in the south of France, don't hesitate to contact me for we can meet (or even better: taste some french food together... ;-)
I've always wanted to meet other perl monks, And the opportunity to meet a Saint sounds great to me...

Hey, its not that far away, 'net-wise ... *please* don't be a stranger. We will miss you; certainly one of the most, er, accessable of saints. Hope it goes well w/ the family, too.
    Best of luck!

As you being one of the founders of perlmonks.org I have to congratulate you with the excellent job you have done with it. I am a 'very very' novice perl user and I am only here one week and this site has already brought me so many answers in an easy and fast way. Thanks. Take care. Pieter
Actually, I'm not one of the founders. Just happen to have snuck into the Hall of Saints (shhh... don't tell anyone!). Thanks for the kind words, though :)

      Cheers,

Good luck in Europe. Have a blast and be sure to visit around Europe since everything is so close by. I'm glad we had a chance to meet and hope to see you now and again here.

I haven't been here all that long, but a nice guy pointed me to your excellent CGI tutorial and it really helped me out.

You also seem to have a rather interesting view on society I like. Having seen ample material here contributed by you of rather high quality and with a friendly undertone, I'm sad to hear this.

On the other hand, IMHVVVPO, your surroundings will only improve by moving to Europe (barring any personal problems you may encounter)

Besides, it's not like there is a lack of internet connections here, so I don't see any reason to say adieu instead of goodbye.

    Good luck with your family
