My guess would be that everywhere you do:

$text->insert(...);
[download]

you should include an update as well:

$text->insert(...);
$mw->update();
[download]

It's also a good idea to put use strict and use warnings at the top of your program, as they will help you catch a lot of things that might otherwise go unnoticed.
