liupang has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

being to perl just 3 months, I am actually quite surprised that there is a lack of high-quality Perl websites. Perldoc and CPAN are good , but What I was looking for is a good community , where you get fast responses from an active user group, and some constant input/tips from the experts.. Perl Monks is the first "good" perl site I come upon in a long time. While being happy about finally find a quality site, Can somebody tell me some other good sites just like this one?

One thing my learned colleagues haven't mentioned is why perlmonks is such a good site.

First off, it's frequented by many of the major people in the Perl community, including merlyn, dominus, and many others (most of which seem to have nothing better to do with their lives except watch the Chatterbox and post really good nodes).

Because the Monastery has such a diverse (and international) membership, you're able to tap the experience and wisdom of a larger group of people than you reach with most online communities. Also, the Monastery defends itself pretty aggressively against trolls (jerks), which makes it a nicer place than /. or unmoderated newsgroups.

Second, it's frequented by people who truly care about the language and want to help you get the answers you need. The answers aren't completely free, of course. You do have to do your own homework and you are expected to have read the friendly manual. However, if you're stuck or simply confused folks will help you out, even if it's just a pointer to where the answer can be found.

If you're still looking for other sites, start with Outside Links. Also, look at the home nodes of the Saints. Many of these contain links to extremely useful sites and nodes on this site.

Welcome, enjoy yourself, and have fun travelling the Perl Way.

Update:  Nuts! Lemming beat me to the mention of Outside Links. Gotta learn to type more quickly, I guess.

Sheesh! How many "good" Perl sites do you need? Take my word for it- perlmonks in conjunction with CPAN is ALL you need. It's all I got! Thanks monks!
AgentM Systems nor Nasca Enterprises nor Bone::Easy nor Macperl is responsible for the comments made by AgentM. Remember, you can build any logical system with NOR.

There's one thing you have to understand, Perlmonks is the highest quality site you'll ever encounter. Also, you have said Perlmonks is not a qulity site indirectly. Not that you ment it (which I know u didn't). So to answer your question, many have tried but have failed at what vroom has done to create one of the greatest Perl sites ever. Here are some resources that you can use to get information on Perl but not as much as there is here:

CPAN: Has almost every module know to man for Perl. One of the greatest resources EVER.
Progsharehouse: has about 21 turtorials last time I checked, a couple of programs. Check it out if you need a couple of things you can't find.
Perl.com: Made by the master. Saint Larry Wall's Perl website. Has a lot of Perl documentations about everything that Perl is, was, and soon to be.

These ARE not communities and I am well aware of that. This is the only community you will find that gives you everything you need. So I listed some good resources site for your programming. So in conclusions, what more do you want? Perlmonks is what you need.

One person can change the corse of history. One person can destroy the human race. That one person is out there, I intend to find him.

    My other writings.

    There are some other high quality sites;
See neophyte's effort at Outside Links
However, this is the cream of the crop in terms of a density of knowledge with a sense of community.

I have searched, but never found, for sites like this for other programming languages. I have never found even one that comes close to this. And perl has some of the most extensive online documentation and resources around. What language has better resources than this?

When's the last time you used duct tape on a duct? --Larry Wall
Thanks for all the reply! I may not express myself well in my previous post. The fact is, this is the only one perl site that meets my "high quality" standard in my 3 months of searching for "good perl sites". So, after feeling so happy , I was wondering "why it took me so long? Is this the only one , or there are lots of others that I was just too stupid to find out?" I guess u guys answered my question. That is "this is THE ONE". Well, I feel more assured about my searching skill now. Thanx guys :=)

I wonder what do you mean by high-wuality Perl websites
are you referring here to sites with flashy contents and lots of DHTML happening along??
I certainly hope not, because as a Perl comunity I believe that everyone (or at least most of) here agrees with the W3C and quality contents
Other than that, I think that all you need is PerlMonks and CPAN
