Nope: `unpack("x1 C1", $bitstring);` [download] that's will output a null byte, followed by the next byte interpreted as a single unsigned char value. I.e. the numeric value of that byte as a perl number. `unpack("x1 A1", $bitstring);` [download] Will output a null byte followed by the next byte AS AN ASCII CHAR. In other words, pass the byte through basically unmodified. Note that unpack returns a LIST of values. "What should it profit a man, if he should win a flame war, yet lose his cool?"
