mikasue has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

Hi fellow monks.

I am trying to install Class DBI on a new laptop but can't find a repository to download it from.

I have updated my repositories using this wonderful script Re: Script to update your PPM Repositories and when I do a search Class-DBI in the ppm3 window it finds 2:

ppm> search Class-DBI Searching in Active Repositories 1. Class-DBI [v3.0.14] Simple Database Abstraction 2. Class-DBI [v3.0.14] Simple Database Abstraction

However, when I do an  install 1 I get the following message:
ppm> install 1 Package 1: Error: no suitable installation target found for package Class-DBI. ppm> install 2 Package 2: Error: no suitable installation target found for package Class-DBI.

Here is my updated repository:
Repositories: [ 1] ActiveState PPM2 Repository [ 2] ActiveState Package Repository [ 3] bribes [ 4] theoryS [ 5] soulcage58 [ 6] sablot [ 7] theory58S [ 8] theory58 [ 9] openi [10] crazy58 [11] log4perl [12] gtk [13] theory [14] smueller [15] devhelp [16] soulcage [17] savage [18] crazy [19] datetime
Does anyone know what those messages mean?
And does anyone know of a repository that has Class-DBI build 3.0.14?
I don't want to do it manually but if that's the answer i'll accept it. Thanks for your help!

I don't know if this is the problem, but you may need to manually remove the datetime repository - it has issues.

It usually means that your Perl installation is not recent enough to handle the module. What build is your AS Perl? I just re-installed the Class::DBI from the AS repository on my machine and it was fine.

I used the 5.6.1 build off of ActiveState.

See it as a sign of the Gods that you better switch to DBIx::Class right now ;-)

Install Class::DBI manually (or using cpan).
