Either your PATH is not set to point to the directory where perl resides or perl is not owned by group wheel.

Perhaps the System Operator doesn't want you to run perl as root?

    after the installation of perl5.8.8
    this problem is fixed
    I don't know why
    mabe the former user didn't install perl properly
    but how could it be???
