PKtm has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

Looking everywhere for Perl snippets and/or modules that will read Lyrics3 tags from MP3 files. Modules like MP3::Info don't seem to cut it. How can this be? Lyrics3 has been around for 5 years or more, and is baked into such things as Windows Media Player. Can anyone steer me to code?

A quick Google search turned up gmusicbrowser. It is written in Perl/GTK and according to the feature list, it is a "fully featured tag editor (support all id3 versions, limited support for APE & lyrics3 tags)". It was last updated July 1, 2006 so it appears to be actively maintained. If it doesn't contain the functionality you need, the source code might give you a place to start. It is distributed under the GPL license.

(It sounds like you've already searched CPAN. I didn't find anything after a cursory look, either.)

If you can send an example file that has a valid Lyrics3 tag to dan | at | slimdevices.com, I will add support to MP3::Info for it.
