My OS is solaris 5.9 and include Perl 5.6 .

My manager don't want me update to Perl 5.8.8.

In Perl 5.6, what modules can send a email?

    See the Perl Email Project.

    And if your manager insists on you using a version of Perl that is six years old, then I recommend that you upgrade to a better manager :-)

      I keep invoking the CPAN shell and can't find the command for that... which is it? I've tried

      install Manager::New
      and it insists that module is not on CPAN.

    I've been using Mail::Sendmail for years, which, despite the name, does not speak to the sendmail(1) binary, but directly to the port 25 of the mail server of your choice. It's well-maintained and does the job very well. And I'm still using it today on 5.6 platforms that are in production.

    Does your manager perhaps allow you to install CPAN modules? If so, try MIME::Lite or Mail::Send. I've used both over the years with a tendancy to prefer MIME::Lite.

    I've used Mail::Sender under 5.6 and 5.8. I've found it especially easy to use when sending emails with attachments within Perl.
