Looks like an incomplete perl install. Go bug your sysadmin. See also this thread on freebsd-questions

By the way, it's normal for the perl interpreter to install as both "perl" and "perl5.x.x". Or maybe I misread that part of your post.

Joost, Thanks for fast reply. Glad to know that it is normal for the perl interpreter to install both "perl and "perl5.x.x". The big problem...I am the sysadmin...I am somewhat familiar with Linux but not at all with Perl. So, I should re-install perl? I did that once already (same results), could you point me to the proper installation procedure? Obviously I have missed something. Thanks again!	[reply]

A "standard" perl install from the source at CPAN should work like this: `# untar source, cd into the directory ./Configure # answer bunch of questions (defaults are usually good) make make test # change to root make install` [download] However, FreeBSD has its own ports system that you should probably use instead if you want to install the default perl interpreter for that system. I'm not at all familiar with BSD ports, but according to the link i posted above, you should "rerun use.perl port" after you 've done whatever you did to install perl. this link seems to describe the same procedure.
