Having read "Where should I post X?", I have a related question: Which is better, to get the definitive answers for tricky or picky perl questions? Perlmonks or comp.lang.perl.moderated? Or ...? What about cross-posting questions?

If you cross-post, note this fact both places. It may also be polite to cross-summarize in case points of significant interest get raised in one forum but not the other (but be patient on doing that, please). But even with that, I suspect you'll get some (minor) grumbling for cross-posting, even if it isn't done publicly.

You might get better luck serial-posting, if you have an unusual level of patience for a question-asker. Post the question one place, do your follow-ups there. After the thread appears to have thorougly died, if you still have doubts, then post "I asked blah over at blah and they said blah but that left me wondering blah and nobody there had an answer for that."

Demonstrating patience usually earns you less disrespect than not demonstrating it.

OK. I've already posted on clpmod. I'll wait a while before cross-posting here...Thanks for the advice!

I don't know anything about comp.lang.perl.moderated, but we handle tricky and picky perl questions here all the time!

From watching both PM and clpm, I'd say that PM is more consistently a better resource for answering questions at all levels of query than clpm.

There are overlaps in users, but, in general, PM has pretty much all the high-quality gurus from clpm, plus many many more.

As regards usenet, I've always assumed that c.l.p.misc would generally provide better support than c.l.p.moderated ... but I could be wrong about that. (I've never taken a look at c.l.p.moderated.)

    Cheers,
