Plugin Functionality?

Spidy has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

Greetings, fellow monks.

I've lately begun working on a web-based system that looks like it will have a lot of code added on to it later as we add more features. For this reason, I'd like to try and implement a sort of 'plugin' functionality a la Wordpress. However, I have no clue exactly where to start. Can anyone give me some pointers or ideas on how to do this?

How much detail do you want? Plugins are loadable code-chunks that share a public API. One of the most intuitive ways of achieving that is to create modules that expose one or more functions/methods with predefined names and signatures. There was a question about this a few days ago where I also gave a very simple example. "What should it profit a man, if he should win a flame war, yet lose his cool?"	[reply]
