I discovered the
XML::RSS::Feed and was extremely impressed. It has a built-in caching mechanism and handles standard RSS feeds really well. It is also built for sub-classing on custom feeds like the examples enclosed in the build and the
XML::RSS::Headline::PerlMonks which took about 15 minutes to customize for the PerlMonks feed. Check it out.
