Install Module DBD crashes with "Cant find library"

LHradowy has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

This is in regards to my previous long winded question regarding installing DBD::Oracle
Well, I started from scratch and just untarred the binaries.
I am running HP 11.00 B.11.00 U 9000/785
Installed both 64 bit gcc and Perl with DBI
Corrected the correct $PATH:
/opt/perl64/bin/perl:/usr/local/pa20_64/bin/gcc

Here is where my issues arrises...
When I start the install of the DBD:Oracle

LD_RUN_PATH=/opt/app/oracle/product/8.1.7/lib:/opt/app/oracle/product/
+8.1.7/rdbms/lib
Using DBD::Oracle 1.19.
Using DBD::Oracle 1.19.
Using DBI 1.46 (for perl 5.008006 on PA-RISC2.0-LP64) installed in /op
+t/perl64/lib/site_perl/5.8.6/PA-RISC2.0-LP64/auto/DBI/
Writing Makefile for DBD::Oracle
[download]

Then it poops out:

ld: Can't find library or mismatched ABI for -lclntsh
Fatal error.
*** Error exit code 1
[download]

Would this be because the oracle installed is 32 bit?
Or changing the LD_LIBRARY_PATH will fix this...

How would I do this?

As far as I can find after a quick google search, you don't have the oracle client (correctly) installed. "What should it profit a man, if he should win a flame war, yet lose his cool?"	[reply]

the oracle install is a real PITA. Install oracle install client for, I think in your situation, 64 bit perl, and for your platform. Downloadable for free from oracle.com, after nagging you to create an account with user/pw. Before doing anything with the perl install, verify that you can connect to an oracle db with instantclient. you probably need to install clntsh, or maybe lclntsh on debian, apt-cache search lib, apt-get whatever. after you've installed it, it may just work. or, you may need to edit /etc/ld.so.conf. For more on this voodoo, see quick way to add a line to a file, if it's not already present (automating tweaking of /etc/ld.so.conf for installing Image::Magick) this is about a problem I had with image::Magick, but I had the same kinds of "missing so file" stuff with mysql and oracle. bah. see especially the "tip" I give at the end of the file, via a shell echo to the user, in case the install file somehow didn't do what it was supposed to.
