Yes, that works fine. I don't see any of these problems when I save to disk and open it. Unfortunately, the client wants the "Open" option as well.

    Then it looks as though your browser is changing or passing something the app doesn't like. I would try replicating in Firefox using an header sniffing extension and see if 1) it works in Firefox and 2) Sniff your headers to see that they are coming across correctly.

      What does that mean?

        The most likely answer is that IE is changing the mime-type before it tries to load the application

        I see that you are sending a filename in the Content-disposition header, make sure that an extension is included there.
